Cinimod are a London-based design studio involved in the creation of public interaction design pieces. I saw Beacon at the Kinetica Art fair last weekend. I thought it would make a really nice entrance piece for a bar or club.
Beacon is a kinetic light installation with a mind of its own. An array of emergency beacon lights interacts with visitors, tracking their movement through the space, creating an immersive and playful experience.
I took one of their cards and have been browsing their other projects. One of their installations was even in Hoxton Square, where I take pilates classes and just over the road from where I work and down the road from where I live.
Conceived as an exploded blank canvas, the huge “exploded globe of light” was suspended from the trees over London’s famed Hoxton Square and was interactively controlled by the guests interactively using punch cards and VVVV.
They even built a 7 metre wide UFO that they flew over Gdansk in Poland!
Back to the Kinetica Art Fair — and Tim Lewis’ Pony mentioned a few posts ago, a user by the name of alg-a has uploaded some videos from the fair to vimeo including another angle of Pony in motion, capturing how amazing this piece really is. You can view more of the videos from their profile page.
