Art Lebedev studio designed a keyboard that blends traditional with an emerging screen-based model a few years ago called the Optimus Maximus. This makes it possible to have a customised keyboard for each application using letters or icons that animate, or even separate languages, at the relatively high cost of €1257 though.

Their concept model however takes this idea one step further and removes the physical keys, which means there are no restrictions on their shape and size of them, allowing for complete customisability. Although this concept has been around for over a year I could really see it becoming popular now — helped by the boom in touch screen interfaces from devices such as the iPhone and the Wacom Cintiq. No release date or price yet.

After attending the Games Based Learning 2010 conference in London I’ve come away with a realisation of what the medium is capable of and present the case that web designers should be informed and ready to implement games as another form of digital content.

25 years of cyberpunk

hostile takeover

It began with a fascination with the Commodore 64, an interface in to virtual worlds, that lead to my passion for cyberpunk culture — literature, games, art and music. Over the years the interface evolved, a lot more rapidly as I got older and had money to spend on hardware. I developed a strong interest […]
