  Singapore, Singapore

I spent three days in Singapore and really liked the city. It's got a real multicultural feel to it - most of the residents are Chinese or Malaysian but there's a China, India and Muslim part of the city, and plenty of expats from all over the world. I stayed in China town, and got to eat noodles for breakfast.

I loved the weather, warmish (about 30 degrees Celsius) everyday; the only thing I didn't like about the climate was that the sun sets at 6pm all year round, later would be better.

I spent one day on the tourist island just out of the city, Sentosa Island. The Images of Singapore exhibition and the old fort from WW2 were quite interesting. Some of the other things they have there are really quite tacky and a waste of time - like Volcano Land.

I went on a night safari to the zoo, which was quite fun. You travel in little vehicles along a track in complete darkness and pass nocturnal animal enclosures. You can also walk along designated walking tracks, which can be quite exciting when you hear animals roar through the forest at night.

The city itself was great to walk around. There's lots of variation in shops, from Indian tailors, to spice shops (similar to a souk), to huge high tech style shopping malls, and then to market like computer shops. There's definitely enough to satisfy anyone interested in buying a few things while in Singapore.

The Singapore Sling cocktail from Raffles Hotel is not to be missed either. A little expensive but worth at least one .. or two .. or three.

Anthony.
